A school district (SD) in Maryland reported an almost 600 percent increase in the number of students who identify as “non-binary.”
A survey conducted by the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Old Line State’s Montgomery County brought this alarming increase to light. The SD made students from elementary through high school fill out a form that asks for their “identified name,” “identified gender” and “preferred pronouns.”
Based on the survey’s 2019 edition, only 35 students throughout the entire MCPS system identified as non-binary – i.e. identifying as a gender outside the normal male-female dichotomy. The 2021 edition, however, saw this number rise to 239 students – equating to a 582 percent increase in a span of two years.
A breakdown of the 239 students who identified as non-binary showed that the majority of them were middle schoolers, children aged between 11 and 14. Ninety-two were in high school, while 18 children were in elementary. (Related: ‘Openly queer teacher’ admits to socially transitioning 3rd grade students.)
Over the last four years from 2019 to 2022, a total of 423 intake forms have been submitted to the MCPS. Forms from that period showed that almost half of the SD’s population – 45 percent – identify as non-binary.
According to KUTV 2, principals in MCPS are instructed to work with non-binary students and their families to develop a plan to ensure that the students have equal access and equal opportunity and will be protected from gender-based discrimination at school.
The TV station also noted that the form asks if parents are aware of their children’s non-binary identification, and ranks their level of support on a scale of one to 10. The MCPS form emphasized that parents and guardians should only be involved in the completion of the form if they are aware and supportive of the child’s gender identity. More than half of MCPS students identifying as non-binary – 55 percent – gave high scores ranging from between eight and 10.
In a piece for Harbingers Daily, Answers in Genesis (AiG) CEO Ken Ham blasted the survey’s findings.
“This confusion and rejection of God’s created order of male and female is not biological. It’s the direct result of public schools and the media grooming children for gender confusion from the time they are very young,” he wrote.
“Introducing the idea of pronouns, the gender spectrum and transgender ideology to very young children is confusing them and sending the numbers skyrocketing.”
Ham, whose organization AiG operates the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter theme park in Kentucky, slammed transgenderism “and the host of other gender identities” as a new “social contagion” that threatens children.
“These young kids, believing they are something other than male or female, are ripe for the sexual abuse that is ‘gender-affirming’ hormones and surgeries. These procedures can cause permanent sterility and mutilate bodies, not to mention the health complications we don’t even know about yet, [alongside] the never-ending medical visits.”
The AiG CEO also zeroed in on how MCPS made non-binary students involve their parents in filling up the forms only if they were aware of their children’s gender identity. According to Ham, this was a clear example of “how schools are increasingly portraying parents as the enemy, but the school and the government as having the child’s best interests in mind.”
He warned that parents themselves “will now have to support and help their children through the painful and lifelong consequences of this gender madness long after they’ve moved on from the school, teachers, and media that have planted the seeds of confusion in their minds.”
“This is the largest social and medical experiment on children,” Ham said. “It’s evil and disgusting – and the teachers, school boards, media personalities and others who are pushing this on children need to repent of the irreparable harm they are causing.”
“What is happening in U.S. public schools is horrifying, and we must be aware of it and stand boldly against it for the sake of precious children, made male or female in God’s image, who are being sacrificed on the altar of a twisted ideology.”
